Inconel® is a registered trademark (of Special Metals Corporation) referring to a family of austenitic nickel-chromium super alloys.

Looking for Inconel suppliers in USA, UK, Canada, Singapore, Australia, South Africa or Indonesia? Your single source for all type Inconel Alloys.

Inconel is a family of austenitic nickel-chromium-based superalloys. Inconel alloys are oxidation- and corrosion-resistant materials well suited for service in extreme environments subjected to high pressure and kinetic energy. When heated, Inconel forms a thick and stable passivating oxide layer protecting the surface from further attack.

Inconel alloys are oxidation-corrosion-resistant materials well suited for service in extreme environments subjected to pressure and heat. When heated, Inconel material is a thick, stable, passivating oxide layer protecting the surface from further attack. Inconel retains strength over a wide temperature range, attractive for high temperature applications where aluminum and steel would succumb to creep as a result of thermally induced crystal vacancies. Inconel’s high temperature strength is developed by solid solution strengthening or precipitation hardening, depending on the alloy.

Inconel® is typically used in high temperature applications.

Inconel Heat Treatment

Heat Treatment Alloy 600

Alloy 600 is not an age hardening alloy; cold working is the only available means of hardening. Softening by annealing begins at about 1600°F (871°C), and is reasonably complete after 10 to 15 minutes of heating at 1800°F (982°C). Above this temperature, grain growth may be objectionable, although very brief heating at 1900°F will cause complete softening without undue grain growth. Since the rate of cooling has no effect on the softening, the material may be water quenched or air cooled.

Heat Treatment Alloy 625

Alloy 625 has three basic heat treatments:

(1) High Solution Anneal – 2000/2200°F (1093/1204°C), air quench or faster.

(2) Low Solution Anneal – 1700/1900°F (927/1038°C), air quench or faster.

(3) Stress Relieve – 1650°F (899°C), air quench.

Inconel composition and uses

Inconel composition and uses are that they are 20 super alloys which have a base of chromium and austenitic nickel. This composition of Inconel alloys is exceedingly resistant to extreme temperatures and oxidation. Inconel alloys have a high resistance to corrosion in high or very low temperatures. In high temperatures, Inconel forms a solid oxide coating, which makes the surface highly resistant to corrosion. Inconel alloys are used in chemical industry, food processing industry, aerospace industry, marine engineering industry, hydraulic line tubing, heat-exchanger tubing, propulsion motors, etc.

Inconel Welding

Inconel Welding

Inconel welding can be hard, as the welds that are created, tend to crack. Welding can be done using only some specific alloys which are appropriate for welding. The most widely used method for Inconel welding is known as TIG (tungsten inert gas). Even though Inconel welding, using tungsten inert gas is difficult to execute, this is one of the best ways to weld Inconel. Tungsten inert gas method of welding, provides the welder with more ability to weld, than any other welding method. There is another method for Inconel welding which is fast gaining popularity and it is known as pulsed micro laser welding.

TIP TIG inconel 800 pipe welded with inconel 82 wire on 10 inch pipe 3/4 wall.
(welded with lowest possible weld heat).

The TIP TIG weld cycle time for the inconel pipe was 40 – 50 minutes and would be reduced further if reduced Vee groove preps were utilized. The customer used to take around 4 hrs with regular TIG. When your weld process can weld a complex incoloy pipe and make the welds look simple, that’s a process that should be given consideration.

With TIP TIG, no brushing, no grinding, no spatter, no weld rework, no feeding a wire, no foot control, less skills. Note weld smoke prep machining lubricants.

What type of alloy is Inconel?

The answer to what type of alloy is inconel?, is that this belongs to a family of super alloys that are austenitic and are comprised of nickel-chromium. There are various types of Inconel alloys such as Inconel 600, Inconel 601, Inconel 617, Inconel 625, Inconel 718, Inconel 722, Inconel 750, Inconel 800, Inconel 825, etc. Inconel alloys show an enormous resistance to corrosion and oxidation. At extreme temperatures, Inconel alloys display exceptional creep resistance and mechanical strength. Applications where tremendous surface stability is often necessary, Inconel alloys are used, as it can handle very high stress at an extremely high temperature.

FAQ: Inconel is Ferrous Or Nonferrous metal
Best Answer: Inconel is Non ferrous because it consists mostly of Nickel with only a small amount of Iron in its chemistry.
