Based on the quantity of carbon that is present in the steel, the classification of carbon steel is done. As such, there are 4 primary types of carbon steel pipe fittings and these are high, ultra-high, medium, mild and low carbon steel. 0.16 – 0.29% carbon is present in mild and low carbon steel and this happens to be the most common form of steel. Around 0.30 – 0.59% carbon is present in medium carbon steel. About 0.6 – 0.99% carbon is present in high carbon steel. Approximately 1 – 2% carbon is present in ultra-high carbon steel.
